Delhi HC Junks Mahua Moitra's Plea To Stop Jai Dehadrai, BJP MP From Making 'False' Allegations

Delhi HC dismissed a petition filed by TMC leader and former MP Mahua Moitra seeking restrain on BJP MP Nishikant Dubey and advocate Jai Anant Dehadrai from making false allegations against her.

The Delhi High Court on Monday dismissed a petition filed by Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader and former MP Mahua Moitra seeking restrain on Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Nishikant Dubey and advocate Jai Anant Dehadrai from making false allegations against her.

According to PTI, the court rejected interim relief in her plea seeking to stop defamatory content against her. Moitra filed a plea seeking permanent injunction against Dubey, Dehadrai, social media platforms X, search engine Google, YouTube and 15 media houses from making, publishing, circulating defamatory, false and malicious statements against her. Later, she deleted all media houses and social media intermediaries from the memo of parties and maintained her case only against Dubey and Dehadrai.

The duo claimed that Moitra took bribes from businessman Darshan Hiranandani to ask questions in Parliament against his business rival Gautam Adani.

A single-judge bench of Justice Sachin Datta rejected the interim relief application filed by Moitra.

The TMC leader had sued Dubey and Dehadrai for defamation after they alleged that she shared her parliament account login credentials with Hiranandani in return for favours and expensive gifts.

Following these allegations, the Lok Sabha Ethics Committee suggested Moitra’s removal from Lok Sabha. She was expelled on December 8, 2023.

In her defense, Moitra said that Hiranandani is her friend and there has been no quid pro quo.

It was claimed by Dubey that 50 of the 61 questions Moitra asked in Parliament were posed by Hiranandani.

Earlier on February 23, the high court had also rejected her plea asking the court to restrain the Enforcement Directorate (ED) from leaking information to the media about the ongoing probe against her. She had also sought a media gag on newspapers and TV News channels from running unverified information about FEMA case pending against her.
