Delhi Govt To Launch ‘Anti Open Burning Campaign’, Urges Residents To Report Incidents Via 'Green Delhi' App

To curb instances of open burning in Delhi, we will be launching the 'Anti Open Burning Campaign' from November 11 to December 11 in the national capital.

New Delhi: As Delhi’s air quality continues to be in the "severe" category, the environment minister on Tuesday Gopal Rai announced that the Delhi government will be launching an 'Anti Open Burning Campaign' to curb stubble burning and other such activities.

Gopal Rai urged the people of Delhi to file complaints on the 'Green Delhi' app if they see open burning near them.

"We appeal to the people to complain about the 'Green Delhi' app if they see any instance of open burning,” said Gopal Rai in a press conference in New Delhi today.

“To curb instances of open burning in Delhi, we will be launching 'Anti Open Burning Campaign' from 11 Nov to 11 December in the capital; 550 teams from 10 depts handed over responsibility for the same,” said Rai, reported ANI.

He also announced that the second phase of the anti-dust campaign will run from November 12 to December 12.

Rai also added that the government targets to spray bio-decomposer on 4000-acre land in Delhi by November 30. As stubble burning majorly contributes to Delhi’s air pollution, Rai said, “Farmers are not at fault. Any statement against them does not make any sense. The governments had to provide a solution. We have shown (how stubble burning can be curbed) in Delhi. Other states lack the will to do it,” reported The Free Press Journal.

Earlier, Rai had said that he would write to Union Environment Minister Bhupendra Yadav to hold a joint meeting to tackle the environmental problem. He appealed for a joint emergency meeting with the neighbouring states to deal with Delhi’s air pollution problem soon.
