'He Was Trying To Be A Hero': Delhi HC Rejects Bail Plea Of Sharukh Pathan In Delhi Riots Case

The court dismissed the bail plea as withdrawn in which the accused cited reasons for that his 76-year-old father is unwell and has no one to look after him.

New Delhi: While rejecting the bail plea of an accused in the communal violence in Northeast Delhi, the Delhi High Court judge said his intention was to become a hero and now he will have to face the law. The case involved Shahrukh Pathan, the accused who allegedly pointed a pistol at a police head constable when the communal violence broke out in Northeast Delhi in February. The court then dismissed the plea as withdrawn. The accused has sought bail citing reasons that his 76-year-old father is unwell and has no one to look after him. His counsel Asghar Khan also referred to the order granting bail to Jamia student Safoora Zargar on humanitarian grounds, and asked to grant him bail, too. Now you are thinking about your aged and ailing parents.” As per the PTI report, the prosecution stated that Pathan was leading the mob which could be clearly seen in the video on record. "This video was provided to us by a senior journalist from a leading newspaper. He has been examined under section 161 of the CrPC," the prosecution said. In fact, it stated that the weapon in question belongs to the accused and the same has been recovered from the car that he used for absconding. After hearing the submissions and examining the documents and evidence, the court remarked that Pathan was trying to lead the mob in order to become a hero. There have been more than 750 cases registered related to the communal violence that broke out in different parts of north-east Delhi mainly on February 24 and 25. Nearly 100 charge sheets have already been filed in as many cases, so far, according to a report in the Hindustan Times.
