BJP National Executive Meeting In Delhi On January 16-17, Nadda's Fate As President To Be Decided: Report

BJP is expected to praise Prime Minister Narendra Modi's efforts in this regard and prepare a road map to involve its cadres in the exercise, said sources.

New Delhi: The BJP's national executive will meet in Delhi for two days on January 16-17 and is likely to approve an extension of its national president J P Nadda's term, according to party sources on Tuesday, reported news agency PTI. According to sources, the party's most important organisational body will discuss its strategy for the upcoming state assembly elections and evaluate its preparations for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

According to party sources, there is a strong possibility that Nadda, whose three-year term as party president ends later this month, will be given an extension as party chief in anticipation of the upcoming elections.

BJP is expected to praise Prime Minister Narendra Modi's efforts in this regard and prepare a road map to involve its cadres in the exercise, said sources.

The deliberation on countrywide programs planned by the government to mark India's presidency of the G-20 is likely to be one of the meeting's highlights.

They added that the meeting might also talk about the party's performance in recent assembly elections and how the BJP's government at the center works.

In light of the assembly elections and the crucial Lok Sabha elections in 2024, the postponement of the organisational polls may also be brought up for discussion at the meeting. The party's internal polling process may begin after the Lok Sabha elections in April-May 2024, according to sources.

Amit Shah, Nadda's predecessor and Home Minister, had also been granted an extension to lead the party's preparations for the Lok Sabha elections in 2019.

The BJP's organisational polls didn't start until after the parliamentary elections. Nadda won without a challenge, and Shah joined the Union Cabinet during Narendra Modi's second term as prime minister.

Nadda is a seasoned organisational professional who enjoys Modi's confidence and has warm ties with the leadership of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).

He has, according to many party leaders, maintained the BJP's organisational momentum and dynamism under his predecessor.
