Stones Pelted At Dalit Wedding Procession In Jaipur Despite Police Presence, 10 Arrested

New Delhi: About 10 people were arrested for allegedly pelting stones at a Dalit man's wedding procession, in the Kotputli area of Jaipur, said police on Friday, reported ANI.
According to ANI, the Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Kotputli, Circle Officer (CO) Kotputli and Station House Officer (SHO) Pragpura Police Station were put on awaiting posting orders (APO) over the incident.

"10 people were arrested for allegedly pelting stones at a wedding procession of a Dalit man in Kotputli area of Jaipur on Thursday night," said Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Ram Kumar.
An FIR has been registered under IPC sections 323(punishment for voluntarily causing hurt), 341(punishment for wrongful restraint) along with sections of the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, an Indian Express reported stated.
The report stated that the stone-pelting began when the groom on a mare reached the bride's house, late on Thursday night. The stone-pelting took place for 15 minutes despite the presence of police who were deployed to provide protection.
However, a circle officer Dinesh Kumar Yadav told Indian Express, that the attack was sudden and lasted only seconds the attackers used the bush and trees as cover injuring three people. The family has filed an FIR naming 18 people. Of the 10 arrested, six are those who were named while the involvement of others was revealed in their investigation.

Dalit outfits have said that they will reach the place to stand in solidarity with the families on Sunday and be a part of the wedding, Indian Express reported. Anil Dhenwal, Rajasthan president of the Azad Samaj Party and former state president of the Bhim Army has said that there have been several incidents of such attacks wing to a feudal mentality of caste discrimination. He said that they will protest with strong actions are not taken against the accused.
