Amid the rising danger posed by Cyclone Biparjoy, all the ships were cleared from Gujarat's Kandla Port and a Signal 10 was put up on Monday.
As the powerful cyclone Biparjoy approaches Gujarat, Kandla Port has been cleared of ships and Signal Number 10 has been raised, an alert to the public about the impending 'very severe' cyclone or a hurricane. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for the Saurashtra and Kutch coasts of Gujarat. IMD Director General Mrutyunjay Mohapatra stated that an orange alert has been issued for June 14, followed by a red alert for June 15. He urged residents to find safe locations and stay protected.
"An Orange alert has been issued for June 14, and a Red alert for June 15 for all districts. The cyclone is expected to make landfall on June 15 and move towards the north-northeast (NNE) direction. We appeal to people to stay at safe locations," said IMD Director General Mrutyunjay Mohapatra, as quoted by ANI.

Earlier today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired a meeting to assess the preparedness for Cyclone Biparjoy. The very severe cyclonic storm 'Biparjoy' intensified into an extremely severe cyclonic storm on Sunday. As the cyclone strengthened, high tidal waves were observed at Marine Drive in Mumbai, with similar waves observed at the Gateway of India region.
According to a statement from the weather office, a storm surge is expected in the Kutch, Devbhumi Dwarka, Porbandar, Jamnagar, and Morbi districts of Gujarat. The surge, reaching approximately 2-3 meters above the astronomical tide, is likely to flood low-lying areas during landfall. "Damage is expected in Kutch, Devbhumi Dwarka, Porbandar, Jamnagar, Morbi, Junagarh, and Rajkot districts of Gujarat on June 15. Thatched houses may be completely destroyed or extensively damaged, while pucca houses may also be affected. There is a potential threat from flying objects," the statement read, as quoted by ANI.
Gujarat is expected to experience thunderstorm activity with high wind speeds over the next five days. The Gujarat government has taken all precautionary measures to tackle the cyclone and is prepared to restore services after landfall, as reported by PTI.
