CRPF Averts Major Terror, Naxal Incidents As Canines Recover 5,000 Kgs Of Explosives After Deployment
Speaking on the sidelines of CRPF Day celebrated in Chhattisgarh on Saturday, Deputy Commandant of CRPF's DBTS Mahendra M Hegde said, "These dogs have saved the lives of many security personnel."
New Delhi: The dogs of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) have averted major terror attacks and Naxal incidents in India by recovering around 5,000 kg of explosives. The canine dogs trained by CRPF played an important role in foiling the possibility of any major attacks in the country and saving the lives of security personnel, reported news agency ANI.
In fact, the canine dogs have always played a very significant role in averting any terror attacks by risking their lives during operations carried out by CRPF personnel in the Naxal and terror-hit areas in the country.
Dogs under the training imparted at the Dog Breeding and Training School (DBTS) or CRPF in Bengaluru are playing a very significant role in foiling any attempts and incidents pertaining to Naxal and terror attacks.
Deputy Commandant of CRPF's DBTS Mahendra M Hegde said, as quoted by news agency ANI, "Since their deployment across the country, these dogs have helped CRPF personnel in recoveries of collectively around 5,000 kilograms of explosives. When a half kilogram of explosives can claim a large number of lives, one could imagine the extent of damage such a quantity of explosives can cause."
Speaking on the sidelines of CRPF Day celebrated in Chhattisgarh's Jagdalpur on Saturday, he said, "These dogs have saved the lives of many security personnel."
The officer said 80 percent of the recovered explosives were from Naxal-hit districts of the country.
Hegde further stated that around 500 dogs are currently deployed in insurgency-affected regions of Chhattisgarh alone, reported ANI.
He said, "Presently, the dog authorization in CRPF is very high as compared to other forces and right now, we have the authorization of 15,00 dogs. The reason for this is the nature of our duty, particularly in Naxal-hit areas."
Hegde also remarked, as quoted by ANI, "Deployment of dogs has benefitted us as a force multiplier because they lead the trooper in operational areas."
The Deputy Commandment further said BDTS was set up in Bengaluru in 2011 after realising the importance of dogs in operational activities.
The training school has trained over one thousand dogs and deployed them at different locations across the country. Most of the dogs trained here have been deployed in Jammu & Kashmir, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odiahs, and several other parts of India.
The training institute trains dogs to signal early warning of ambush, detection of IEDs, and deal with anti-national elements.
