Coronavirus Scare: 30 States, UTs In Complete Lockdown; Over 1,000 Cases Against Violators In Delhi, 96 FIRs In Noida

Delhi Police has registered 1,012 cases in different areas of the national capital on Monday. A police officer said that most of these cases were registered under Section 188 of the IPC and Delhi Police Act.

New Delhi: Thirty states and union territories announced complete lockdown in their entire territories covering as many as 548 districts, the government said on Monday. The unprecedented decision was taken in the wake of the outbreak of the deadly coronavirus. The 30 states imposing complete lockdown include capital Delhi, Maharashtra, Bihar, Tripura, Assam, West Bengal, Rajasthan, Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Punjab, Gujarat, Karnataka among others. However, the country saw several violators in different areas on the first day of the lockdown implemented to prevent the spread of coronavirus epidemic that has claimed at least ten lives in India so far. Delhi Police has registered 1,012 cases in different areas of the national capital on Monday. A police officer said that most of these cases were registered under Section 188 of the IPC and Delhi Police Act. The Delhi Police said in a statement: "These criminal cases were registered under Section 188 of the IPC and Sections 65 and 66 of the Delhi Police Act." Watch | Despite lockdown commuters throng at Delhi borders A Delhi Police spokesperson said: "Of the total cases registered, 100 cases were registered in various police stations under section 188 of the IPC. While 475 under section 65 of Delhi Police Act and 323 under section 66 of Delhi Police Act, 801 cases were registered under Delhi Police Act. Among the 15 districts, the maximum 29 cases were registered in South East District under Section 188. Whereas in this district the highest and total 211 cases were registered under Delhi Police Act." While 96 FIRs (first information reports) were registered and 1995 vehicles were challaned in Noida for violating the lockdown and section 144 in the district, yesterday, said Noida Police. On the other hand, the Jammu and Kashmir police booked 35 people for flouting curfew norms imposed in the region amid the coronavirus outbreak on Monday. The Handwara police have arrested 16 violators and seized 13 vehicles who were found violating the government orders. In this connection, an FIR was registered. Also Watch | How people are making war against coronavirus harder for country In Kralgund police station, seven violators have been booked and seven vehicles seized for violating the directions imposed under under Section 144 CrPC. In Vilgam police station, six violators have been arrested and three vehicles seized. In Qalamabad, six persons who have been found violating the restrictions have been booked. Besides, the police have once again requested the general public of Handwara to follow the restrictions imposed by District Magistrate in order to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 and those violating the restrictions imposed under 144 Crpc will be dealt strictly.
