Coronavirus In India: India recorded another massive single-day spike of 56,282 cases on Thursday taking the total to 19,64,537. With 904 fatalities the death toll has now reached 40,699. According to data by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, at present, the active cases are 5,95,501. India’s recovery rate remains high and a total of 13,28,336 have been discharged so far. The Ministry says that while the active cases form 30.31 percent of cases in the country, the number of people who have been discharged is about 67.62 percent.

Worst hit states

Maharashtra remains one of the worst affected states in the country with a total active case of 1,46,268 cases. The city which is now facing problems due to heavy rainfall has recorded a total of 16476 fatalities due to the infection. The total number of patients discharged so far is 3,05,52. Tamil Nadu comes in second with 54,184 active cases and 4,461 deaths. The number of people who have been discharged so far is 2,14,815 cases. Andhra Pradesh comes in the third position, with 80,426 active cases. There are 1,04,354 people who have been discharged so far.

Coronavirus tests in India

The total number of Covid-19 samples tested up to 5th August is 2,21,49,351 including 6,64,949 samples tested yesterday, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has said. There are 917 labs in the government sector and 439 labs in the private sector for conducting COVID-19 tests.

Ahmedabad Fire 

A massive tragedy unfolded in Ahmedabad as a blaze erupted at a private Covid-19 hospital leaving eight Corona patients dead. The fire engulfed Shrey Hospital in Navrangpura area of Ahmedabad. The victims include five men and three women, who were being treated at the ICU ward of the COVID-19 designated hospital.  The hospital housed 40 other patients who were rescued and shifted to a civic hospital in Ahmedabad itself
