Mumbai received the highest rainfall of the season within just 12 hours on Wednesday besides the highest-ever wind speed, the city civic body said. According to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), the island city recorded 215.8 mm rain, followed by 101.9 mm in eastern suburbs and 76.03 mm in western suburbs.

Normalcy took a hit for Mumbaikars as the city was deluged after receiving continuous rains on Wednesday night, breaking several past records.
Mumbai's Nair Hospital was flooded as the city received heavy rainfall yesterday. As per IMD, Colaba received 331.8mm & Santacruz received 162.3mm rainfall in last 24 hours.
Several roads like Mahapalika Marg and Colaba Causeway Road in south Mumbai, which never witnessed water-logging in the past, were blocked and closed for traffic after trees collapsed due to high-velocity winds in the evening.
Several roads were closed and BEST buses were stranded. Many motorists abandoned their vehicles in flooded streets. In many places trees collapsed and rainwater entered inside homes and shops.

The BMC has opened temporary shelters for stranded passengers and others at its schools, three units of NDRF are also deployed for rescue missions.
