Coronavirus: India Sees Biggest Jump With Over 62K Fresh Cases, Overall Count Surges Past 2 Million

Coronavirus India: India is at the third position globally in terms of cases of Covid-19. It crossed the 2 million mark on Friday with highest ever single-day spike.

Coronavirus India: India has fast achieved yet another grim milestone in coronavirus transmission as the overall covid-9 tally surpassed the 20 lakh mark on Friday. As per the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, India’s Covid-19 case tally has crossed 20-lakh mark with highest single-day spike of 62,538 cases. Never before had the country witnessed a spike of over 60,000 fresh cases. The COVID19 tally rises to 20,27,075 including 6,07,384  active cases, 13,78,106 cured/discharged/migrated & 41,585 deaths, the Ministry of Health has said. Worst hit states:  Maharashtra with 1,46,268 active cases and 3,05,521 cured and discharged patients continues to be the worst affected. The state has also reported 16,476 deaths due to the infection. It is followed by Tamil Nadu which has 54,184 active cases while 2,14,815 patients have been discharged after treatment in the state. 4,461 deaths have been reported due to the contagion in the state. Andhra Pradesh with 80,426 active cases is the third on the list. There are 1,04,354 cured and discharged patients and 1,681 deaths reported from the state. Delhi now has 10,072 active cases and 1,26,116 cured and discharged patients. 4,044 people have lost their lives due to the disease in the Union Territory so far. Global scenario:  The overall number of global coronavirus cases has crossed the 19 million mark, while the deaths have increased to over 713,000, according to the Johns Hopkins University. As of Friday morning, the total number of cases stood at 19,007,938 and the fatalities rose to 713,406, the University's Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) revealed in its latest update. India's position: The US accounted for the world's highest number of infections and fatalities at 4,881,974 and 160,090, respectively, according to the CSSE. Brazil came in the second place with 2,912,212 infections and 98,493 deaths.  In terms of cases, India ranks third (1,964,536), and is followed by Russia (870,187), South Africa (538,184), Mexico (462,690) (with inputs from agencies)
