Coronavirus: India Sees Record Recoveries In A Day, Overall Covid-19 Cases Inch Closer To 12-Lakh Mark

Active Covid-19 cases in country stand at 4,11,133, while 7,53,049 people have recovered. In last 24 hours, a record 28,472 patients were declared cured of Covid-19.

Coronavirus In India: With over 37,000 new covid-19 cases reported in the last 24 hours, India’s overall coronavirus taly has inched closer to 12 lakh-mark. As per the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, India recorded 37,724 cases and 648 deaths in single day span. “Single-day spike of 37,724 Covid-19 cases, 648 deaths pushes India's virus caseload to 11,92,915, death toll to 28,732,” the ministry said. It said that active Covid-19 cases in country stand at 4,11,133, while 7,53,049 people have recovered.  In last 24 hours, a record 28,472 patients were declared cured of Covid-19. Number of tests: Total number of samples tested up to 21st July is 1,47,24, 546 including 3,43,243 samples tested yesterday, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has stated. Worst-hit states: The second worst-hit state, Tamil Nadu has reported 1,80,643 Covid-19 cases so far while Delhi has reported 1,25,096 cases, according to the Ministry. Other states that have witnessed a higher number of Covid-19  positive cases include, Andhra Pradesh with 58,668 cases, Karnataka with 71,069 while Telangana has reported 47,705 Covid-19  positive cases. Vaccine by December? Adar Poonawalla,CEO of Serum Institute which has partnered with Oxford University and AstraZeneca for the coronavirus vaccine has said that although the final approval of the vaccine is expected by the end of the year the company is still putting USD 200 million at risk by manufacturing nearly 300 million doses before that.
