New Delhi: India on Thursday witnessed the worst-ever spike in its daily cases with nearly 17k cases in 24 hours span. As per the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare , the jump has pushed India’s overall Covid-19 tally to over 4.73 lakh. 418 deaths and highest single-day spike of 16,922 new Covid-19 positive cases reported in India in last 24 hours. Positive cases in India stand at 4,73,105 including 1,86,514 active cases, 2,71,697 cured/discharged/migrated & 14,894 deaths, the health ministry stated.

Over 70 lakh samples tested so far, says ICMR

As per Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) 75,60,782 samples were tested till 24th June and as many as  2,07,871 samples tested in the last 24 hours.

Worst-hit states (active cases)

There are currently 1.86 lakh active corona cases in the country. The most active cases are in Maharashtra, where more than 62 k infected people are being treated in hospitals. National Capital Delhi is at number two, Tamil Nadu at number three, Gujarat at number four and West Bengal at number five. These five states have the most active cases.

Delhi surpasses Mumbai to become worst affected city

Delhi, which already is the second worst-hit state in terms of coronavirus caseload and fatalities, overtook Mumbai after the number of cases soared by 3,788 to touch 70,390. Mumbai has so far recorded 69,625 cases, according to official figures.

Out of India's total COVID-19 cases, only 4.16 per cent of patients required ventilator support: govt official

At least 7,423 people (4.16 per cent) required ventilator support across the country as of Tuesday evening, out of the total confirmed coronavirus cases reported in India so far, said a government official.
While 27,317 COVID-19 patients (nearly 15.34 per cent) require an ICU setting and 28,301 patients (15.89 per cent) were on oxygen support to date.

"Cumulative number of cases till June 23, 6 pm -- ICU: 27,317 (15.34 per cent); ventilator: 7,423 (4.16 per cent) and oxygen: 28,301 (15.89 per cent)," said the official.
