Congress Names Vijay Wadettiwar Leader Of Opposition In Maharashtra Assembly
Wadettiwar takes over for Ajit Pawar, who resigned in order to separate his party and join forces with the BJP-led state administration.

After the announcement, Vijay Wadettiwar stated: "Farmers are upset, unemployed youth are upset, there is loot going on in Maharashtra, we will fight against all these."

Previously, Maharashtra Congress president Nana Patole stated that the position of Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly belonged to his party, which currently has the majority of leaders among the coalition partners.
"According to the procedure, the position of LoP is awarded to the (opposition) party with the most representatives in the House. Since Congress is the largest party in the alliance, the opposition leader will be from our party, according to the process," he had said.
When asked if the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) had lately made claim to the LoP seat, he answered, "It will be clear when we submit a letter to the Speaker."

The LoP position became available after Ajit Pawar, who previously held the position, resigned to join the Maharashtra administration on July 2nd, along with eight other NCP MLAs.
Ajit Pawar was sworn in as Deputy Chief Minister in the NDA administration led by Eknath Shinde and Devendra Fadnavis.
