'Are Govts Supposed To Protect Or Perpetrate Crime?' Navjot Sidhu After Meeting Moose Wala's Parents

After meeting the parents of Moose Wala, Sidhu hit out at the AAP-led Punjab government over the law and order situation in the state.

Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu, who was released from jail last week, met the parents of slain singer Sidhu Moose Wala at their residence in Punjab's Mansa district on Monday. Sidhu was accompanied by a few Congress leaders and the former cricketer reached Moosa village in Mansa at around 2:15 pm.

After meeting the parents of Moose Wala, Sidhu hit out at the AAP-led Punjab government over the law and order situation in the state. "Are governments supposed to protect or perpetrate crime?," Sidhu told reporters, as quoted by news agency ANI.

Shubhdeep Singh Sidhu, popularly known as Sidhu Moosewala, was shot dead by six people in Mansa district on May 29, 2022. The incident took place a day after his security was curtailed by the Punjab Police.

Canada-based gangster Goldie Brar, a member of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, claimed responsibility for the murder. Brar had claimed that Moose Wala was assassinated to avenge the killing of Akali Dal leader, Vikramjit Singh, aka Vicky Middukhera.

Moosewala joined the Congress in December 2021. At that time, Sidhu was the chief of the party's Punjab unit and he had described the singer as a "youth icon".

Navjot Sidhu was released from the Patiala Central Jail on Saturday after spending around 10 months in connection with a 1988 road rage case. On May 20 last year, Sidhu was imprisoned after he surrendered before the Patiala court.

After stepping out of jail, Sidhu targeted the BJP-led Centre, alleging that "democracy is in chains" and institutions have turned slaves in the country. He had also claimed that a conspiracy was being hatched to impose President's Rule in Punjab.

The cricketer-turned-politician called Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann as "akhbari mukhmantri" for giving big ads in papers.

"Whenever dictatorship came in the country, a revolution came and today, I say the revolution's name is Rahul Gandhi," Sidhu told reporters.

"Today democracy is in chains, there is nothing like democracy today. Institutions have turned slaves and these have been made rubber 'ke gudde' (dolls)," PTI quoted Sidhu as saying.
