'China Willing To Work With India': Premier Li Says In Congratulatory Message To PM Modi On Third Term

Modi was sworn in as prime minister on Sunday for a record-third term, heading the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance government.

On June 5, the Chinese Foreign Ministry had congratulated PM Modi on the victory of the NDA alliance, saying that both countries should look to the future to advance bilateral relations, frozen since the Galwan incident four years ago, on a healthy and stable track.

"We noted the results of India's general election and extend congratulations on the victory of the BJP led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the National Democratic Alliance, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning had said.

A healthy and stable China-India relationship is in the interest of both the countries, and conducive to the peace and development in this region and beyond, Mao had said while responding to a question by the official media seeking China's comment on Modi's win.

However, China last week protested over PM Modi's comment that he looked forward to having closer ties with Taiwan. Beijing warned India on Thursday and cautioned it to be “alarmed” about Taiwan’s “political calculations” and remain firm on the ‘One-China’ principle.

China views Taiwan as a rebel province that must be reunified with the mainland even by force.

Taiwan’s President Lai Ching-Te had congratulated Modi on his win and said his country looks forward to enhancing bilateral ties with India not only in the field of trade and technology but also to “contribute to peace & prosperity in the Indo-Pacific”.
