New Delhi: As the calendar takes a turn into the new year, the cold wave in North India is likely to intensify. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted cold wave conditions in North and Northwest India over the next few days that would prevail till January 2, 2022.
As per the Met department’s forecast, cold wave conditions with dense fog are likely over isolated pockets of Northwest, Central, and East India from December 30, 2021, to January 1, 2022.
“Cold Wave to Severe Cold Wave Conditions over NW India & MP during next 3-4 days,” wrote the IMD on Twitter.
“Cold Wave/Severe Cold Wave conditions in some/many parts of Punjab during 31st December to 03rd January & in some parts over Haryana, Chandigarh & Delhi and Rajasthan during 31st December to 03rd January,” it added in a tweet thread.
After a wet spell on December 28 and 29, cold wave conditions will persist over Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh between December 30, 2021, and January 2, 2022, and over north Rajasthan on December 31, 2021, and January 1, 2022.
Besides, dense fog will be observed at night and early morning hours over Punjab, Haryana, and north Rajasthan over the next few days and over East India on December 31, 2021, and January 1, 2022. Ground frost is also likely over Northwest India on December 31, 2021.
While there is no significant drop in minimum temperature over most parts of central and eastern India, Bihar will face a gradual temperature fall of 2-4 degrees Celsius over the next two days. Though the temperature will rise thereafter.
Besides, the peninsular states of Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu are likely to see heavy rains accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning.
