New Delhi: Election Commission of India (ECI) on Thursday informed that all the political parties in UP are of the same opinion that elections shall be held at the scheduled time with all covid-19 protocols to be followed.


Wrapping up its three-day visit to Uttar Pradesh, Chief Election Commissioner Sushil Chandra told media persons in Lucknow that while every political party was in unison for holding polls on time, there were few suggestions regarding curbing political rallies.

  • Keeping the covid situation in mind polling time will be increased by an hour for all states going to poll next year.

  • Election Commission has requested the health secretary to ensure that 100 percent eligible population gets the first dose of vaccination while 50 percent receive the second dose before the commencement of the election. Vaccination coverage has to be increased in all five poll-bound states.

  • Postal ballot for handicapped, senior citizens, and covid infected people.

  • Polling booths in UP are to be increased by 11 thousand.

  • The final voter list is to be released on January 5.

  • 800 all-women managed polling stations to come up.

  • PAN card, MNREGA card, post office issued passbook, Aadhaar card along with 7 other documents can be produced for the purpose of identification.

  • Webcasting on around 1 lakh polling stations to ensure transparency.

  • Voter turnout during the 2017 UP Assembly Election was 61% whereas during the 2019 Lok Sabha election was 69%.

  • Polling officials to be fully vaccinated and designated as frontline workers. Booster doses are also to be administered to them.
