Srinagar: The security forces have killed as many as six terrorists and militants in two separate encounters in South Kashmir. Among those killed is Shahid aka Shahzaid who was among the top 60 Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) terrorists. Shahid was a resident of Pakistan and one of the most wanted in Jammu and Kashmir.
Two of the dead have been identified as local militants. One of them was Shafi Dar, a resident of Tral, and the other was Uzair Ahmad, a resident of Mirhama. They both were C categorised terrorists affiliated with JeM.
According to the police, the armed forces were conducting a cordon and search operation in the Mirhama area of Kulgam district on receipt of reliable information on the intervening night of December 29 and 30. During the operation, the terrorists opened fire at the police personnel which led to an encounter. Later the three terrorists were neutralised.
The operation was conducted jointly by the Army, Central Reserve Police Force, and the Kashmir Police. After the exchange of fire, the police also recovered arms and ammunition from the house they were hiding in which includes an M4 rifle and two AK-47 rifles.
The recovered material has been sent for further investigation and an FIR has been filed in the Kulgam police station. The police have requested the people to not venture into the encounter zone and cooperate until the place is completely “sanitised.”
Meanwhile, another encounter took place in the Anantnag district on the same iht in which three more militants and terrorists were killed. Two Army jawans have been injured and one has been martyred in the encounters, said IGP Kashmir Vijay Kumar.
