Chhattisgarh: Video Showing Villagers Taking Oath To Boycott Muslims Goes Viral, Probe On
The video was reportedly shot in Kundikala village located under Lundra police station limits of the district on January 5.
Raipur: A video has gone viral on social media where residents of a village in Surguja district of Chhattisgarh can be seen taking a vow to boycott transactions with shopkeepers and vendors of the Muslim community nor sell their lands to them.
According to reports, Chhattisgarh Police on Friday ordered a probe after the purported video was shared by many on Twitter.
The video was reportedly shot in Kundikala village located under Lundra police station limits of the district on January 5 and senior police officials have visited the area and initiated an enquiry.
In the viral video people can be heard saying: "From today, we Hindus pledge to not buy any item from a Muslim shopkeeper and not to sell them anything. We pledge to not sell or give our lands on lease to Muslims. We Hindus pledge to buy from vendors coming to our villages only after ascertaining their religion. We also pledge to not work as labourers for them."
Reacting to the incident, Surguja collector Sanjeev Jha told news agency PTI that the district's Additional Superintended of Police (ASP) and Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) visited the village on Thursday and collected information about the incident.
He also said that further action is being taken into the matter.
It all started after some residents of Aara village visited Kundikala to celebrate New Year during which they entered into a brawl with some locals, Surguja ASP Vivek Shukla told the news agency.
He further said that next day a resident of Kundikala lodged a complaint alleging that half-a-dozen villagers of Aara along with some others barged into his house and assaulted him and two of his family members.
Based on the complaint, Police arrested 6 people. However, all of them got bail from a local court on the same day. Shulka also said that prima facia, it appears that some people provoked residents of Kundikala to hold such a gathering and take pledges against the minority community.
Police officials have also said that they are trying to identify those who organised and administered such oath during the gathering.
