Comparing Chaudhary Charan Singh's Legacy To 'Small Election' Disrespectful: Jayant Chaudhary
Jayant Chaudhary heaped praises on the Modi government amid talk of the RLD-BJP alliance and refused to spill beans over the alleged deal after Bharat Ratna was announced for his grandfather.
New Delhi: Following the announcement of Bharat Ratna to Chaudhary Charan Singh posthumously. Jayant Chaudhary, leader of the Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD), staunchly defended the legacy of his grandfather. He said, "To compare the legacy of Chaudhary Charan Singh with a small election of 2024 is belittling him and insulting his supporters. It is an insult to an honour like Bharat Ratna".
As per PTI, Jayant refused to spill beans over the alleged deal between his party and the BJP involving the RLD joining the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) after Bharat Ratna was announced for his grandfather.
Jayant heaped praises on the Modi government amid talk of the RLD-BJP alliance, saying, "The process of deciding on Bharat Ratna is a pious process. The government takes decisions in the interest of the nation, keeping in mind people's sentiment... 37 years after his death, a government thought of honouring him", PTI quoted Jayant as saying.
RLD leader also took a veiled attack on the opposition. "If they are seeing something wrong with this and if they think there is a transaction, it shows their ideological decline", he remarked.
When questioned about the internal matters of the Samajwadi Party, Jayant Chaudhary opted for discretion, highlighting the need to keep such discussions within the party's confines and based on trust. He mentioned, "Those are internal matters, based on trust. Whatever discussions took place between me and Akhilesh ji, I will not discuss it outside... When our alliance is decided and announced, I will be able to tell why I changed my stand and the way ahead", as per PTI.
According to PTI, reflecting on his past remarks of not flipping like a coin, Chaudhary suggested that the remarks made during elections should have an expiration date. "Something was said during poll campaign. Amit Shah had said something about me, I said something to keep my people together. I did not intend to insult him, nor did he take it personally. Otherwise, would Chaudhary sahab get a Bharat Ratna?" he said.
Chaudhary reiterated his dedication to the Lok Dal and the welfare of farmers, pledging to make decisions with their best interests in mind. These remarks came amid speculation surrounding the RLD's potential alignment with the BJP-led NDA in the upcoming general elections.
