Bulandshahr Violence: After 72 hours, UP CM Yogi meets slain cop Subodh Kumar Singh's family; assures justice
Amid a political furore, the state government has announced financial assistance of Rs 40 lakh to the wife of the inspector. In a statement issued, the Principal Secretary (Home) Arvind Kumar announced, "Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has announced a financial assistance of Rs 40 lakh to the wife of Subodh Kumar Singh and Rs 10 lakh to his parents."
LUCKNOW: Three days after violence broke out in Uttar Pradesh's Bulandshahr district over the alleged illegal slaughter of cattle which left a police inspector Subodh Kumar Singh dead, Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath met with Inspector Subodh Kumar Singh's family on Thursday. During the meeting, CM Yogi assured that all possible help will be given to the family and proper investigation will be done into the murder.
During a press conference, DGP announced that the government will take the responsibility of providing financial assistance for the education of Subodh Kumar's kids. The government will name a college, road after the inspector and will also give an amount of 30 lakh to pay off a loan.
Amid a political furore, earlier the state government has announced financial assistance of Rs 40 lakh to the wife of the inspector. In a statement issued, the Principal Secretary (Home) Arvind Kumar announced, "Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has announced a financial assistance of Rs 40 lakh to the wife of Subodh Kumar Singh and Rs 10 lakh to his parents." The Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also announced an extraordinary pension for the dependent family of the deceased inspector and government job for a member of his family.
On Wednesday, an absconding accused, who is said to be a Bajrang Dal leader, surfaced in a video clip Wednesday, claiming innocence. In the video, he said, "The police are projecting me as if I have a major criminal record. There were two incidents that took place on that day (Monday). A cow was slaughtered in Mahab village near Siyana and I went to the spot with other activists. People from administration also went there," adding that they later went to police station to file an FIR.
How the violence erupted in Bulandshahr:
ADG Anand Kumar said that according to reports he had received, Raj Kumar, a former chief of Mahav village, had informed the Syana police about the carcasses of five to six cows in his field. Inspector Subodh Kumar was attached to the same police station.
“The deceased inspector had gone to the village (around 9am) with (three) other constables and was talking to the villagers when some people loaded the carcasses on a tractor-trolley, took it to the highway, blocked it and attacked the Chingrawathi outpost,” the officer was quoted by the Telegraph, India.
“Subodh rushed to the protest site where over 400 villagers from three villages, Mahav, Nayawas and Chingrawathi, had assembled by then. They attacked the police. Subodh suffered injuries and died on the way to hospital. The protesters continued attacking the police and fired from country-made pistols. The police too used force in self-defence.”
Earlier, Anand Kumar said there was a presumption that Kumar was hit by a brick but post-mortem reports later confirmed that the police officer had died of a bullet wound.
“It is clarified that Subodh Kumar Singh was the investigating officer of the Akhlaque lynching case of Dadri from September 28, 2015, till November 9, 2015,” he told reporters.
A video that surfaced on Wednesday, which is believed to have been filmed before Sumit was shot. He, along with some youths, was seen throwing stones on the police. After that, it could be seen that Sumit was shot, possibly in a crossfire and taken to hospital by youths.
