India Declares State Mourning Today In Memory Of Queen Elizabeth
India has declared one day of state mourning on Sunday as a mark of respect to Britain’s Queen Elizabeth-II who breathed her last on Thursday.
"Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, passed away on September 8, 2022. As a mark of respect to the departed dignitary, the government of India has decided that there will be one-day state mourning on September 11 throughout India," an official statement said.
The national flag will be flown at half-mast on the day of mourning throughout India on all buildings where the national flag is flown regularly and there will be no official entertainment on the day, it said.
NCP To Present Blueprint For Oppon Unity At National Convention Today
The Sharad Pawar-led Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) is holding its eighth national convention here on Sunday to send a message of opposition unity ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections to take on Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led BJP.
Pawar, who had surprised the BJP by forging an unlikely alliance of Congress-Shiv Sena-NCP to form government in Maharashtra after the 2019 assembly elections, has already appealed to opposition parties to keep aside differences and join hands to challenge the Modi juggernaut.
CM Dhami To Visit Cloudburst-Hit Uttarakhand Village Today
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami will visit the cloudburst-hit areas of Uttarakhand's Pithoragarh district on Sunday and meet the affected people in Khotila village.
The cloudburst that occurred past midnight in a border village of Nepal triggered a flash flood in Khotila village on the Indian side as surging waters of the Kali river rushed into homes, filling them with sludge and killing a woman.
The body of Pashupati Devi, resident of Khotila village, was later pulled out of the sludge that had choked her house after the flooding of the river, Pithoragarh District Magistrate Ashish Chauhan said.
Delhi Metro Ops To Be Partially Curtailed On Yellow Line Today
Delhi Metro operations on a section of the busy Yellow Line will be partially available in the initial few hours on September 11 due to a planned maintainance work, officials said on Saturday.
The affected segment will be one side of Sultanpur and Qutub Minar metro stations.
"Due to pre-planned maintenance work, Metro services will not be available from Sultanpur to Qutub Minar on the Yellow Line for going towards Samaypur Badli from 5:15 AM till 6 AM on 11th September, 2022, i.e, tomorrow (Sunday)," the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) tweeted.
