SC to Hear Manish Sisodia's Bail Plea Amidst Money Laundering Probe
The Supreme Court is set to resume the hearing of former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia's bail plea on Wednesday. This follows an adjournment of the bail plea hearing, jointly requested by lawyers representing both sides, which occurred on September 15.
Mr. Sisodia currently has two special leave petitions scheduled for Wednesday, one against the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and another against the Enforcement Directorate (ED). These petitions are linked to an ongoing money laundering investigation related to an alleged Delhi excise policy scam.
A bench comprised of Justices Sanjiv Khanna and S.V.N. Bhati has acquiesced to the joint request made by Mr. Sisodia's legal representative, senior advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi, and Additional Solicitor General S.V. Raju, who is representing the ED.
In a previous hearing, Singhvi informed the court of the urgency surrounding the matter, emphasizing that Mr. Sisodia sought interim bail due to his wife's serious health condition.
Mr. Sisodia has approached the apex court after facing setbacks in two separate Delhi High Court rulings on July 4 and May 30, both of which denied him bail in the ED and CBI cases. Additionally, he has sought interim bail on the grounds of his wife's prolonged illness.
