Anna University Assault Case: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has alleged that Gnanasekaran, the man who was arrested on Wednesday in connection with the sexual assault of a 19-year-old Anna University student in Chennai, is a member of the ruling DMK party. Tamil Nadu BJP chief K Annamalai claimed that the accused serves as the deputy organiser of DMK's Saidapet East student wing.

According to police, Gnanasekaran entered the campus, attacked the male friend of the second-year engineering student, and dragged her into a bush where he allegedly assaulted her. Gnanasekaran is a 37-year-old biryani stall owner from Kottur.

Following the arrest, BJP leaders shared a photograph purportedly showing Gnanasekaran with Tamil Nadu Youth Welfare and Sports Development Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin and Minister Ma Subramanian.

Taking to X, TN BJP chief Annamalai said, "It has been revealed that Gnanasekaran, who was arrested in the case of a student being sexually assaulted at Anna University, has been involved in similar crimes several times before and is the deputy organizer of the DMK's Saidai East student wing. A clear pattern emerges from such criminal cases across Tamil Nadu. A criminal becomes a member of the DMK and becomes close to the DMK executives in that area. All cases registered against him are being shelved."

He also alleged that such crimes by DMK members were prevalent across Tamil Nadu but police refrained from taking action due to the pressure from DMK members.

He asked: "How long will the people of Tamil Nadu have to tolerate this situation? Is there a law in Tamil Nadu that says that if you are a member of the ruling party, you should not take action against the criminals? Chief Minister MK Stalin will now take questions from the public. Will he answer?"
