Today is the Goa Liberation Day and all political parties are tryinmg to consolidate their power on this day. The Goa Forward Party and Congress have announced their pre-poll alliance in a press conference ahead of the upcoming Goa assembly elections early next year. In the press conference, Goa Forward Party President Vijai Sardesai said, “We've said in the past that on the eve of Goa's 60th Liberation Day, we'll give you an alliance that will re-liberate Goa from these elected autocracies.”
Other than that, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on December 19 will visit Goa and attend a programme commemorating Goa Liberation Day at Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Stadium at about 3 p.m.
As per the statement issued by the PMO, on this occasion, the Prime Minister will honour the freedom fighters and veterans of 'Operation Vijay.' Every year on December 19, Goa Liberation Day commemorates the triumph of the Indian Armed Forces' 'Operation Vijay,' which freed Goa from Portuguese domination.
In other news, Omicron cases in India rose to 143 on Saturday after Karnataka and Kerala reported six and four cases respectively, while eight more persons in Maharashtra tested positive for the Coronavirus variant.
Additionally, in Telangana, the number of Omicron cases rose to 20 with 12 more people testing positive for the new coronavirus variant on Saturday, news agency PTI reported.
