Breaking News LIVE, 20 August, 2021: President Ram Nath Kovind has given assent to the Constitution (One Hundred and Fifth Amendment) Act, 2021 empowering States to identify Socially and Educationally Backward Classes. The President has also given assent to the General Insurance Business (Nationalisation) Amendment Act, 2021. The Act further amends the General Insurance Business (Nationalisation) Act, 1972.
In a saperate development, an encounter broke out between security forces and terrorists in Pampore area of Awantipora, Jammu and Kashmir on Friday morning. As per the early inputs, a terrorist has been killed by the security forces during the encounter. Jammu and Kashmir Police has informed that the security forces have currently cordoned off the entire area as the encounter is still going on.
The security forces launched a cordon and search operation at Khrew in Pampore area of Awantipora following information about presence of militants there, the officials said.
They said the search operation turned into an encounter after the ultras opened fire towards security forces' positions, which was retaliated. There were no casualties reported so far in the operation on either side, the officials said. The police haven't revealed the identity of the terrorist killed and which terrorist group he was associated with

We demand the Centre repeal three anti-agriculture laws and compulsorily guarantee MSP to farmers. Release all political prisoners, including those under draconian UAPA in Bhima Koregaon case and anti-CAA protests, it added.
The Opposition has also demanded release of all political prisoners in J&K, restore full statehood including the J&K cadre of central services along with a free and fair election at the earliest.
