SIDDHARTHA MOHANTY TO TAKE OVER AS LIC's INTERIM CHAIRMAN
The Chairman of Life Insurance Corporation (LIC), M R Kumar, has completed his term, according to a statement released by LIC on Monday. The government has approved the appointment of Siddhartha Mohanty, who is currently a Managing Director at the insurance company, as the interim Chairman of LIC for three months, effective from March 14, 2023.
In a regulatory filing on Monday, LIC stated that "Mangalam Ramasubramanian Kumar has ceased to be the Chairperson of the Corporation, with effect from March 13, 2023, after close of business hours, upon completion of his term." Kumar's tenure as Chairman had been extended twice by the government, first until March 13, 2022, and then until March 13, 2023.
The BSE saw LIC shares close at Rs 582.50, down 2.19% from the previous close.
MAHARASHTRA GOVT EMPLOYEES TO GO ON STRIKE
Unions of Maharashtra government employees have decided to go ahead with a planned strike today, demanding that the state revert to the Old Pension Scheme. Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Monday announced a panel comprising senior bureaucrats to look into the demand.
According to officials, the panel will submit its report within a specified timeframe. In a meeting chaired by Shinde and attended by Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Leaders of Opposition in the Assembly and Council Ajit Pawar and Ambadas Danve, respectively, Chief Secretary Manu Kumar Srivastava, Additional Chief Secretary (Finance) Manoj Saunik, and several unions representing state government employees, Shinde and Fadnavis urged the employees not to proceed with the strike, which could potentially disrupt the administration's operations. Shinde acknowledged the employees' contribution to the state's progress and stated that a solution to their social security concerns would be reached through dialogue.
KEJRIWAL TO ANNOUNCE 'BIG SCHEMES' IN MP
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal will be making significant welfare announcements at the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) rally in Bhopal's BHEL Dussehra Maidan, marking the start of the party's campaign for the Madhya Pradesh Assembly polls to be held later this year, according to a party functionary. The AAP aims to make a difference in Madhya Pradesh's politics, which has been dominated by the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Congress, by organizing this rally. Kejriwal will be joined by Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.
The AAP intends to contest all 230 Assembly seats in Madhya Pradesh and is encouraged by its performance in the urban local body polls in July-August 2020, in which it claimed to have gained 6.3% of the vote share. The AAP had also won the mayor's post in Singrauli in the state's Vindh region.
