'Blowing Kisses Like A Lukkha': Amit Malviya Lashes Out At Rahul Gandhi Over Lok Sabha Incident
Rahul Gandhi criticises PM's 'laughter' during Lok Sabha speech on Manipur crisis; BJP's Amit Malviya calls for responsible opposition, condemns 'flying kisses' gesture.
After Rahul Gandhi said on Friday (August 11) that it is inappropriate for a Prime Minister to laugh and crack jokes in Parliament when Manipur has been burning for the past four months, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Amit Malviya slammed the Congress leader, saying India deserves a more responsible opposition, not someone who blows flying kisses like a 'lukkha' (a person who does misdemeanor) in Parliament.
Rahul Gandhi said he was amazed to see PM Modi laughing, cracking jokes, and talking at length about the Congress and him in his response to the no-confidence motion in the Lok Sabha on Thursday. PM Modi has a number of tools at his disposal to deal with the situation in Manipur, but he is not using them because he does not want to put out the fire in Manipur, according to Gandhi.
In response to Gandhi's criticism, Amit Malviya said the Congress leader had the audacity to walk out while PM Modi was speaking and 'blabber like a dement'. "Rahul Gandhi, who didn’t have the decency to sit through the entire No Confidence Motion, moved by the Opposition, skipped Home Minister’s speech and walked out when Prime Minister spoke, worse, like a ‘लुक्खा’ was blowing flying kisses in the Parliament, when it was, ironically, among other things, discussing women security and safety, has the audacity to come out and blabber like a dement. India deserves a more responsible Opposition," Malviya said in a tweet.
Rahul Gandhi's alleged flying kiss in Parliament sparked outrage, with women BJP MPs complaining to the Lok Sabha Speaker about the gesture after Smriti Irani objected to it. Women opposition party MPs, including Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi and Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra, spoke in support of Rahul Gandhi and questioned Smriti Irani instead.
The opposition walked out of Parliament on Thursday as PM Modi spoke, claiming that he did not speak about Manipur for the first two hours. Rahul Gandhi said on Friday that the situation in Manipur is unforeseeable because the state has been divided into Kuki and Meitei.
"A state necessitates control and authority. Manipur is a state that does not exist. When we arrived in the Meitei district, we were told unequivocally that any Kuki on my security team would be shot. The same thing happened in the Kuki area," Gandhi said, explaining why he said the BJP had 'murdered' Manipur. "I was not speaking metaphorically, but literally," Gandhi explained.
