Bihar AES deaths: Death toll in Muzaffarpur rises to 130; roof outside ICU collapses in SKMCH

New Delhi: Death toll due to Acute Encephalitis Syndrome (AES) has risen to 130 in Bihar's Muzaffarpur on Sunday, as one more patient died at Sri Krishna Medical College and Hospital (SKMCH), news agency ANI reported. As many as 110 have died at SKMCH and 20 have died at Kejriwal Hospital.

LJP MP Pashupati Paras met with angry protests, MLA held hostage by villagers in encephalitis hit Harivanshpur:
Member of Parliament from Hajipur Pashupati Kumar Paras, and LJP MLA from Lalganj Rajkumar Sah, were met with angry protests when they visited Bihar’s encephalitis hit village Harivanshpur.
The leaders were surrounded by angry protesters who raised slogans against them. Lalganj MLA Rajkumar Sah was even held hostage by the villagers. He somehow managed to escape by shelling out some money.
In Muzaffarpur and its nearby villages, children continue to die due to AES, which is locally called as chamki bukhar. The death toll due to the disease has breached 150 in the state.
Residents of Harivanshpur village, facing a severe shortage of water and jolted by the death of several children, had announced a reward of Rs 15,000 for locating their MP and Union Minister Ram Vilas Paswan on Saturday.
They had put up banners and pasted posters on their cattle to convey their anguish against Paswan.
They also announced Rs 5,000 reward for finding out the local MLA, who they claimed was not around to address their woes.
Pashupati Kumar Paras who is the brother of Paswan and had won from the Hajipur seat on the Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) ticket, distributed Rs 5,000 each among the families who lost their children to AES.
