The Ministry of Home Affairs has provided 'Y plus' category Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) security to Bhim Army chief Chandrashekhar Azad, news agency ANI reported, citing sources. The security cover will be provided only in Uttar Pradesh.






Last year, Aazad's convoy was attacked by armed men in UP’s Saharanpur district. The police had said that a few car-borne armed men opened fire on the Bhim Army chief's convoy, as reported by ANI. Following the incident, he was taken to the hospital.


Azad's car was attacked by armed men in Deoband area of Saharanpur district. Shots were fired at Azad's convoy when it was passing through the Deoband area. A bullet brushed past Azad's waist and he was rushed to the government hospital for treatment. Police sources told PTI that the assailants sped away from the spot following the attack. Police are investigating the matter.

Chandrashekhar Azad had gone to Deoband attend a 'terhavi' ritual at a supporter's home. The attack occurred when Azad left the spot in his SUV. Hundreds of Bhim Army and Azad Samaj Party supporters had gathered at the hospital and additional security personnel were deployed. Following the incident, Bhim Army had demanded immediate arrest of the accused and strict action. 


UP police had nabbed four persons for shooting Azad. UP's Saharanpur police had said that they arrested four persons Vicky from Haryana, another Vicky from Rankhandi, Prashant and Lavish - from Haryana. The police further stated that the youth carried out the attack because they were not happy with some of Azad's remarks.
