Mukhtar Ansari Death News: An investigation on Friday was initiated after controversy arose over the demise of incarcerated gangster-turned-politician Mukhtar Ansari, with his son alleging that he was subjected to "slow poisoning" while in prison. Ansari, aged 60 and held in custody since 2005, passed away due to cardiac arrest in Uttar Pradesh's Banda on Thursday. His post-mortem was conducted on Friday.


In response, the Uttar Pradesh Police has issued prohibitory orders across the state to maintain law and order. Mukhtar Ansari, a former five-time MLA from Mau, had more than 60 criminal cases pending against him.

Mukhtar Ansari Death: Top Points


1) Mukhtar Ansari's son, Umar Ansari, asserted that his father was subjected to "slow poisoning" while in Banda jail. A similar claim was made by Ansari's brother and Ghazipur MP, Afzal Ansari. However, authorities have refuted these allegations. Click here to read the full report. 


2) According to a report by news agency PTI, the Chief Judicial Magistrate's court in Banda has directed an additional Chief Judicial Magistrate to investigate Mukhtar Ansari's death and submit the findings within a month.


3) Prior to his death, the former MLA submitted an application to the Barabanki court, alleging that he was given a "poisonous substance" along with his food. Ansari reported experiencing pain in his nerves and limbs after consuming the food on March 19. Here's all that he said in his plea. 


4) The post-mortem of Mukhtar Ansari was conducted in Banda and videotaped. According to reports, his viscera have been preserved, and plans are underway for his cremation at the Mohhamadabad burial ground.


5) Umar Ansari has written to the Banda District Magistrate, requesting that the post-mortem of his father be conducted by doctors from AIIMS Delhi, citing a "lack of trust" in the local medical system.

6) The family of the deceased has approached the Allahabad High Court seeking parole for Abbas Ansari, Mukhtar Ansari's son currently incarcerated in Kasganj jail.


7) Mukhtar Ansari was transferred to the Rani Durgavati Medical College in Banda from the district jail in an unconscious state on Thursday. Despite efforts by a team of nine doctors, he succumbed to cardiac arrest.


8) Earlier in the week, Mukhtar Ansari had been hospitalised for approximately 14 hours due to complaints of abdominal pain.


9) Section 144 has been imposed statewide in Uttar Pradesh, prohibiting large gatherings, with additional security personnel deployed in Banda, Mau, Ghazipur, and Varanasi districts. Read the report here
