Elections in Himachal are due later this year along with Gujarat. At the same time, AAP has also announced to contest the Simla Municipal Corporation elections.
This is the first time AAP has entered the hilly state where it has been a two-party contest for a long time.
AAP formed an 8-member team for Himachal Pradesh elections last month to expand the organization and prepare an election strategy in the state. Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain has been made the election in charge, while Durgesh Pathak has been made the state in-charge, and Ratnesh Gupta his deputy. Jain has visited the state several times since AAP's victory in Punjab.
During his recent visit to Dharamsala, in-charge Satyendar Jain had said that AAP chose Mandi for the roadshow for three particular reasons. First being that it is centrally located, second, it is the center of state politics and third, Mandi is the home constituency of CM Jai Ram Thakur. Jain also said that they have defeated the current Chief Minister in Punjab and will repeat that feat in Himachal as well.
