Demanding the arrest of Naveen, a relative of Congress MLA Srinivas Murthy over his alleged derogatory social media post, a large mob gathered outside Murthy’s residence and rioted in DJ Halli, KG Halli and Pulakeshi Nagar.
As per reports, Murthy's house was attacked by people for an alleged controversial post on Facebook regarding “Prophet Muhammad” by his nephew.

Action taken:
Accused Naveen has been arrested for sharing derogatory posts on social media, Bengaluru Police Commissioner Kamal Pant said.
110 people have been arrested in connection with the violence that broke out in Bengaluru over an alleged inciting social media post, Sandeep Patil, Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Bengaluru said.
Section 144 imposed:
Police have imposed Section 144 of Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) in the city to prohibit the assembly of four or more persons in an area, while curfew has been imposed in DJ Halli and KG Halli police station limits.
"Section 144 of CrPC to prohibit the assembly of four or more persons in an area has been imposed in Bengaluru and curfew has been imposed in DJ Halli and KG Halli police station limits of the city," Bengaluru police commissioner said.
Violence, vandalism, arson across city:
The Congress legislator appeald to the mob to give up violence. “Please don't resort to violence over the mischievous work of some miscreants," appealed Murthy.
A large mob was also seen opposite KG Halli police station in the city. Another mob barged into the DJ Halli police station and torched some vehicles and vandalised furniture, proceeding to attack a few policemen. Hundreds of rioters raised slogans at the top of their voice and continuously banged the gate of DJ Halli police station.

Photographs showing the vandalism outside the DJ Halli police station went viral. The mob chanted religious slogans even as some members from the same community tried to calm down the mob.
Police has said strict action will be taken against those who took law in their hands.
Journalists attacked after police mistook them for rioters:
Several journalists came under police attack, even as they shouted that they were reporters. "We had to run from your police to save ourselves when there was a no mob present," an injured journalist with a bleeding head was quoted as saying by IANS.
