Kolkata: After BJP workers were allegedly assaulted by TMC workers upon the formers' return to Bhagabanpur area of East Medinipur, BJP MLA from Nandigram, Suvendu Adhikari paid a visit to the families of the victims.

The BJP workers who were apprehensive of Post-poll violence and had fled, returned back to their native area after the Court directed them likewise. However, upon their arrival, they fell victims to TMC workers who thrashed them, attacked them with bombs, ransacked and looted their houses.

Two days after this incident, BJP MLA of Nandigram, Suvendu Adhikari, visited the families of the victims along with local MLA Rabindranath Maity. Adhikari went from door to door and sat amidst a gathering of people to listen to their woes.

After listening to one of the women narrate the list of looted objects - Rs. 9 lakh in cash, gold, Adhikari promised them that he will be there by their side.

He said, "I am a witness to many struggles. I am here so don't worry anymore".

Walking over floors strewn with broken glass, he expressed his disappointment over the incident. He was greeted by aggrieved public who showed them the destruction of their tiled roofs and broken window panels.

After touring the area and observing the vandalised houses, Adhikari said to one of the people accompanying him to keep a list of victims and build a relief plan for compensation.

While addressing a large gathering, Adhikari listened to their complaints and the vivid details of the assault. He replied, "There is no man equal in strength to Modi. You support his party, and they torture you. They will do it for some more time, but eventually you will win".

After listening to their complaints of threat, Adhikari asked them to be patient and strong, file FIRs and assured them that each one's protection is his own responsibility.

BJP supporters of the area are afraid of repetition of such assaults on them. Inspite of ruling party's claims of denial, post-poll partisanal violence and brutality is  a continuous affair in Bengal.
