Kolkata: At a time when unemployment is at its peak due to the ongoing pandemic, several scams have also come to the fore where people are lured with a promise of job. In one such incident a woman who impersonated as a CID officer wearing a police uniform  duped lakhs of unemployed youth in the West Bengal.


A woman identified as Radharani Biswas has allegedly cheated lakhs of unemployed youth in the state with the promise of a job. The accused belongs to Kanthalpota, in Krishnanagar, West Bengal.

According to sources, the woman tried to establish herself as an influential person by getting involved in social work. Several youth have already lodged a complaint against the woman at the Kotwali Police Station.

One of the affected persons Gaurab Chatterjee said, “She introduced herself as a CID officer and was involved in various social work. The woman offered me a job in the health department. I agreed to the offer and she fleased Rs 5 lakh from me. After paying that money, I had a medical test done, but I have not got a job yet. Despite repeated requests, she has refused to pay back the money and was I forced to lodge a complaint with the Kotwali Police Station. Many people like me have already been cheated by the woman.” The accused is a resident of his neighborhood.

However, the accused woman could not be contacted. When the concerned officials reached her residence, her daughter said that her mother was not at home. She denied all the allegations against her mother and said that she was being framed on false charges.

Local Trinamool Congress leader Biswajit Chakraborty also alleged that the woman used to walk around the area in a police uniform and identified herself as a CID officer. “By influencing the local youth, she has embezzled lakhs of rupees by showing the temptation of job. It is also alleged that she has scammed youth from other areas.”

The municipal administrator of Krishnanagar Municipality said, "I have heard such a complaint. I will request the police to investigate and take appropriate action.”
