Bengal BJP Chief Meets Victims Of Howrah Violence, Stopped From Going To Shibpur As Sec 144 Imposed
West Bengal BJP president Dr. Sukanta Majumdar met victims of recent clashes in Howrah during his visit to a temple but was denied to go to Shibpur.
West Bengal Ram Navami Violence: Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) state president Dr. Sukanta Majumdar on Sunday met victims of recent clashes in Howrah during his visit to a temple. A video tweeted by news agency ANI shows Majumdar looking at injuries the victims have sustained due to the violent clashes that took place during the Ram Navami celebrations in the state.

According to ANI, after meeting the victims, Majumdar told the media, "The situation is not normal yet. I will report the ground reality to the Governor. A lot of people I have spoken to have told me that they are scared. Central govt and State govt should talk about the deployment of CAPFs here. There should be a CBI inquiry into the incident."

This comes after the Howrah police commissioner told ABP News that Section 144 is in place in the city and said that outside people are not allowed to enter the district. He also urged the residents to not believe any sort of rumour adding that situation is peaceful. When asked if he will take action if the Bengal BJP president arrives in Howrah, the commissioner said proper action as per law will be taken.

However, the leader was stopped from going to another violence-hit area, Shibpur as section 144 has been imposed there.

In West Bengal, two groups clashed in Howrah amid Ram Navami celebrations on March 30. Several vehicles were set on fire, and public and private properties were vandalised during the clashes.
On the other hand, clashes in Bihar were reported on March 31, in Nalanda's Biharsharif and Sasaram in Rohtas district where Union Home Minister Amit Shah was scheduled to visit.
