On Tuesday, raids were conducted in and around Kaliyaganj throughout, and 11 people were detained in connection with incidents of arson, police said.
New Delhi: Around 11 people have been detained for their alleged involvement in violence at Kaliaganj in Uttar Dinajpur district over the alleged rape and murder of a teenage girl, reported PTI.
Prohibitory orders under Section 144 of CrPC continued in some parts of Kaliyaganj, a senior police officer said.
On Tuesday, raids were conducted in and around Kaliyaganj throughout, and 11 people were detained in connection with incidents of arson, he said.
Miscreants, violating the prohibitory orders, on Tuesday set ablaze the Kaliaganj police station and several vehicles parked near it, as a mark of protest, claiming that the 17-year-old girl had been raped and murdered. Her body was found in a canal here last week.
Although the preliminary post-mortem examination report indicated that she had not been raped. It further stated that the minor girl’s death occurred due to some poisonous substance and that there were no injury marks found on the body, news agency PTI quoted the Superintendent of Police (SP) Md Sana Akhtar as saying.
“Victim's post-mortem report given by doctors reveals that death was due to a poisonous substance. No major injury. We will again ask doctors to clarify if there's any sexual injury,” the SP said. "We are investigating the case from all angles," he added.
Police said that a 20-year-old man, identified as the prime accused in the case, was arrested.
The prohibitory orders were clamped in parts of Kaliyaganj on April 23, ahead of the visit of a National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) team. Meanwhile, state secretariat sources said Governor C V Ananda Bose on Wednesday morning spoke to Chief Secretary H K Dwivedi and Home Secretary B P Gopalika and sought a report on Tuesday’s incident.
