Assam Floods: Locals Seek Refuge On Embankments, Highways As Houses Remain Inundated
The flood situation in Assam's Nagaon district remains dire, with more than 5.03 lakh people still impacted.
New Delhi: Several residents of Assam's Nagaon district have been forced to seek refuge on embankments and motorways as several areas continue to be under water, news agency ANI reported.
While their homes are still under water, the residents are sleeping in tents beside the roadways. The floods have impacted over 1.42 lakh people in 155 villages inside the Raha assembly seat.

Preschool activities are being held at the relief camp itself in the Nagaon area. “We’re making children participate in preschool activities in relief camp (Nagaon) itself, with morning prayers, physical exercises, drawings. Union Min Sarbananda Sonowal visited this camp earlier,” NP Doley, Integrated Child Development Services supervisor informed ANI.
Assam's flood situation remained grave on Friday, with 45.34 lakh people still affected by the storm.
Ten individuals have died in the previous 24 hours, bringing the overall number of victims to 117. Out of the 117 persons that perished, 100 died in the flood and 17 died in the landslide.
Two drones have been deployed in Silchar, Cachar district, to carry out flood inundation mapping and to deliver relief items to inaccessible locations.
Today, 85.2 MT of GR products, like as bottled drinking water and grains, were airlifted from Guwahati and Jorhat to Silchar.
Personnel from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), as well as SDRF, Fire and Emergency personnel, the Police Force, and AAPDA MITRA Volunteers, are assisting district administrations with rescue operations and relief deliveries.
In the previous 24 hours, flooding have harmed 33,03,316 individuals from 3,510 villages in 28 districts, as well as 91658.49 hectares of crop land.
“717 relief camps and 409 relief distribution centres have been opened in all affected areas. A total of 2,65,788 inmates are staying in these relief camps. The situation emerging due to incessant rains is under close watch”, the official release was quoted by ANI in its report.
The flood situation in the Kampur region of Assam's Nagaon district has improved marginally, however several places inside the Kampur revenue circle remain under water.
Many buildings, roads, bridges, and embankments in Kampur revenue circle regions were devastated by the disastrous flood.
