"People have blessed us. We can say for sure that the BJP will form government in Assam. We are coming back to power with our partners AGP and UPPL," Sonowal said, as per the news agency PTI.

On asked whether the ruling coalition will be able to win 100 seats, as claimed by the ruling party ahead of the polls, the CM said, "The trends are completely in favour of the BJP. The party will achieve its target. However, we will have to wait for the final results."

Sonowal continues to enjoy a comfortable lead in the Majuli constituency. The saffron party is confident of winning with 100 plus seats in the 126-member assembly. So as of now, the saffron party is expected to return to power. ABP C-Voter Exit Poll projections suggested that BJP's contest with Congress this time is a close one.

The Congress which was superseded by BJP in 2016, formed a grand alliance with perfume baron Badruddin Ajmal’s All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) and four other parties.
