The Odisha government imposed on Sunday 14-day restrictions across the state from May 5 to mAY 19 in order to contain the spread of coronavirus infection in the state as India is battling the viral disease with the country registering over 3.92 lakh new cases of coronavirus in the last 24 hours, and 3689 deaths pushing the cummulative count to 1,95,57,457. 


The lockdown is mostly aimed at restricting movement of people but goods and goods carriers shall not be affected by the measure. There will be complete shutdown on weekends starting 6 PM of Friday's till 5 Am of Mondays.

There are no restrictions on health care or other emergency services. Also, it will not be applicable to the election-related works such as movement of eletion-related personnel from their place of residence to training, disbursal, polling stations etc. 


The state recorded 8,015 new positive cases and 14 patients succumbing to the deadly virus on Sunday, according to the data released by the State Health and Family Welfare (H&FW) Department. 


More than 18 lakh (18,26,219) vaccination doses administered in the last 24 hours.


The traders community in the state have already implemented closure of shops with traders in Ganjam closing shops from 2 pm to 5 am for 10 days in urban areas of the district while other traders’ associations and market committees in Cuttack also announced the business establishments in the Millennium city to remain open from 5 am to 2 pm from May 3 to 18.


Earlier on April 26, merchants and vendors across nine small towns in Kalahandi also decided to close shops till May 2. The region only allowed vegetable vendors to operate till 10 am. Earlier this week, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had pleaded for community-level involvement asking people to take such initiatives whenever required to contain the spread of the viral disease.


In India, 10 states so far have accounted for 72.72 per cent of the new cases registered, as per the ministry of health.


While the four states/UTs reported no death in the last 24 hours including D&D & D&N, Lakshadweep, Arunachal Pradesh and Mizoram.
