Ashish Pandey surrenders before Delhi's Patiala House Court, releases video saying 'I am being presented as terrorist'
Ashish Pandey had pulled out a pistol at Delhi's Hyatt Regency hotel, a video of which went viral on the social media.
New Delhi: Ashish Pandey, son of former Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) MP Rakesh Pandey, who was on the run after brandishing a gun at a five-star hotel in Delhi on Sunday, reached Delhi's Patiala House Court today to surrender himself. A surrender application, filed through lawyer S P M Triathi, said that Pandey has been wrongly framed in the FIR and subjected to media trial. It further said he is ready to submit before the court voluntarily and the police may be directed to take him into custody if required.
The court has granted one-day police remand to Ashish Pandey. Delhi Police had sought 4 days custodial remand.
Ashish Pandey, whose brother is a BSP MLA in Uttar Pradesh, had pulled out a pistol at Delhi's Hyatt Regency hotel, a video of which went viral on the social media. The assistant security manager of the hotel later on Monday lodged the first complaint with the police.
Before going to the court, he spoke in his defense by releasing a video in which he tried to explain himself. In the video, he did not deny the incident but said that the matter is being projected from one side only and that he was being 'presented as a terrorist'. "I'm being projected like I'm a wanted terrorist and police across the nation is looking for me. Look Out Circular has been issued against me. If you check CCTV footage, you'll find who went to ladies toilet that night and who threatened whom," Ashish said.
"I took the gun with me for safety.I didn't brandish it. It was hanging behind me all the time. I didn't even address that girl, she pushed me and made obscene hand gestures. I've faith in judiciary and so I decided to surrender. There is no history of police case against me," he added.

Earlier, Delhi's Patiala House Court had issued a non-bailable warrant against Ashish Pandey for brandishing a gun in premises of Delhi Hyatt Regency hotel, following a brawl with Kanwar Gaurav - son of ex-Congress MLA Kanwar Karan Singh. The court passed the order on the plea of Delhi Police which had registered an FIR on the complaint of the assistant security manager alleging that one person was flagging pistol in his hand in the porch area of the hotel after a tiff with a guest.
