UP Election 2022: AIMIM Chief Owaisi Says Bullets Fired At His Car Near Meerut, Shooter Held

Bullets were fired upon his vehicle near Chhajarsi toll plaza when he was heading to Delhi after election campaigning in Kithaur.

New Delhi: All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi on Thursday alleged that shots were fired at his car while he was returning to Delhi after concluding his election campaigning in poll-bound Uttar Pradesh.

At least three to four rounds of bullets were fired upon his vehicle near Chhajarsi toll plaza while he was heading to Delhi after an election-related event in Kithaur district in Meerut.

Bullets were fired upon his vehicle near Chhajarsi toll plaza when he was heading to Delhi after election campaigning in Kithaur.

"Bullets were fired on my vehicle near Chhajarsi toll plaza. Four rounds were fired. There were three-four people, all of them fled leaving behind the weapon on the scene. My vehicle got punctured, but I left from there in another vehicle. We are all safe," Owaisi tweeted in Hindi.

"Police have informed me that weapons have been recovered and one shooter has been taken into custody," Owaisi told news agency ANI.

Owaisi has been aggressively campaigning in Uttar Pradesh where he has launched a new front, Bhagidari Parivartan Morcha, comprising parties with a support base among Muslims, Other Backward Classes (OBCs) and Dalits for the upcoming Assembly polls.

AIMIM chief has also assured people of the state that if the Bhagidari Parivartan Morcha wins UP polls, it will have two Chief Ministers - a Dalit and an OBC leader, besides three deputy Chief Ministers, one of whom will be Muslim.

The Morcha will field candidates on all 403 Assembly seats of Uttar Pradesh.
