Arun Jaitley Funeral: Former Union minister Arun Jaitley will be cremated today at the Nigambodh Ghat in New Delhi, who passed away on Saturday afternoon after a prolonged illness at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS). The veteran BJP leader's mortal remains will be moved from his residence to the party office at 10 am. He will be kept at the BJP headquarters till around 2 pm for the party workers and mourners to pay their respects. The last rites for Arun Jaitley will be performed at the Nigambodh Ghat later in the afternoon.
Jaitley was 66. He breathed his last at 12.07pm on Saturday. He was admitted to the hospital on August 9. Within an hour of the announcement of his death, the hospital was thronged by Arun Jaitley’s family, friends and well-wishers.
Jaitley passed away at a time when Prime Minister Narendra Modi is away on a foreign tour ahead of the G7 summit. Speaking at an event in Bahrain, PM Modi mourned the death of a friend and said that his friend had left while he was away. Addressing the Indian community at the National Stadium in Bahrain, Modi became emotional while recalling his decades-old friendship with Jaitley.

Leaders from across the political spectrum reached Arun Jaitley’s residence on Saturday to pay their last respects to the BJP stalwart. President Ram Nath Kovind, Vice President Venkaiah Naidu, BJP chief Amit Shah, Congress leader Sonia Gandhi and several politicians cutting across party lines offered floral tributes to former Union finance minister Arun Jaitley at his residence in south Delhi on Saturday.
