Shopian: Suspected militants looted over sixty lakhs from a bank cash van in South Kashmir's Shopian district Thursday morning. According to police, four-armed militants riding motorcycles had followed the cash van and overtook it near Tak Masjid Shopian and robbed the van.

The bank officials said that the bank van bearing registration number JKO1P-3839 was on its way to an ATM to deliver the cash when masked gunmen intercepted it. The gunmen easily took away the bags which were loaded with cash.

IG Kashmir Vijay Kumar while confirming the incident said that initial investigations have revealed that at least Rs 60 Lakhs have been robbed, however, the exact amount will be known after full investigations. He added that all aspects, including the inside help, are being investigated.

Police said that after committing the offence, the gunmen managed to escape from the spot, van staff and bank employees are being interrogated. Meanwhile, forces have cordoned off the area and launched a Search operation.
