"Three contract workers were severally injured. Out of the three workers, the condition of one worker namely G Nagesh is critical, first, they were shifted to Malkapuram ESI hospital for better treatment and now all three are referred from ESI Hospital to Indus Hospital and are under ICU monitoring," said the Visakhapatnam police said in a statement.
Fire bursts are not uncommon at the Vishakhapatnam steel plant; a similar occurrence occurred last year in the same month.
The blast was caused by the tuyeres' faulty cooling process. According to accounts, a circular crane was burned in BF-2, cooling pipes were damaged, and considerable quantities of coke and iron ore were spread in the oven following the blast, the Times Of India reported citing sources.
VSP officials stated that tuyeres bursting is usual at steel facilities and that the occurrence was mild. They also stated that production will most likely resume within the following 24 hours. Workers, on the other hand, estimated that the loss of output and equipment would cost crores and that restoration would take five days.
