Amarinder Singh to be Congress' chief ministerial face in Punjab: Rahul Gandhi
New Delhi: Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi on Friday announced Amarinder Singh as the party's chief ministerial candidate for upcoming assembly elections in Punjab.
Rahul made the siginificant declaration at a public meeting in Majitha.
He will also be addressing a meeting in Lambi, the constituency represented by Chief Minister Prakash Singh Badal, who has been challenged by Amarinder Singh from the seat.
Lashing out hard at the Badals and BJP, he said "If voted to power, the Congress would bring in such a stringent law against the menace of drugs in Punjab that peddlers would shiver even thinking about drugs."
"The Congress will fight drugs and we will win it," he said.
Punjabi will go for polls for 117 seats in a single phase on February 4. The votes will be counted on March 1.
Meanwhile, Prime Minster Narendra Modi is all set to lead the election campaign of Akali-BJP coalition on Friday.
PM Modi will address a rally in Jalandhar today and another in Ludhiana on January 29.
