Telugu film star Allu Arjun, who is facing charges in connection with a fatal stampede during the premiere of his latest film Pushpa 2, appeared virtually before a local court on Friday. The actor, named as accused no. 11 in the case, filed a regular bail petition, which is scheduled for hearing on December 30.
On December 13, Allu Arjun was arrested and produced before the Nampally court. The court remanded him to 14-day judicial custody. His custody ended on Friday, and as part of the proceedings, he appeared before the court through video conference, according to a report on PTI.
After his arrest, the Telangana High Court granted Allu Arjun interim bail for four weeks, from December 13, and he was released from jail on December 14.
The case stems from an incident on December 4 at the Sandhya Theatre in Hyderabad. At the time of the actor's visit for the premier of Pushpa 2, a stampede occurred leading to the death of a 35-year-old woman and injuries to her eight-year-old son. As the fans had rushed to catch a glimpse of the actor, the mishap reportedly took place.
Following the incident, the police registered a case against Allu Arjun, his security team and the theatre management under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), based on a complaint filed by the deceased woman’s family.
Meanwhile, actor Allu Arjun and makers of Pushpa offered financial assistance of Rs 2 crore to the kin of the deceased woman. A delegation led by Telangana State Film Development Corporation (FDC) chairman and leading producer Dil Raju also met CM Revanth Reddy to explore ways to establish Telangana as a prime filming destination. During the meet, Sandhya threatre stampede case was also reportedly dicussed.
