Air India Flight Lands At Delhi Airport With Crack In Windshield, All Passengers Safe

A minor crack in the windshield of Air India's flight AI858 on the Pune-Delhi route caused the aircraft to land ahead of schedule.

New Delhi: A full emergency was declared at the Delhi air terminal for Air India's Pune-Delhi flight as it arrived with 180 individuals installed and a broke windshield, reported news agency PTI. A minor crack in the windshield of Air India's flight AI858 on the Pune-Delhi route caused the aircraft to land ahead of schedule, according to a statement.

"Full emergency was declared for the Air India Delhi flight from Pune at Indira Gandhi International airport at 5.44 pm on Tuesday due to a glitch. The aircraft was carrying 180 passengers on board,” the source said.

"Air India flight AI 858 operating Pune-Delhi on April 18 safely landed in Delhi ahead of its scheduled arrival time, following a minor crack on the right (starboard side) of the operating aircraft's windshield,” the airline said.

It stated that all passengers and flight crew were safe.

Air India added that the necessary maintenance will be performed on the aircraft, and the windshield will be replaced.

Earlier on April 3, one of the engine blades of an Air India plane was damaged when it landed in Kolkata, perhaps due to a bird strike, according to authorities, news agency PTI reported.

They claimed a blade on the right engine of the Airbus A320, which landed here from Mumbai, was bent during checks after boarding was completed for its return flight.

According to reports, Air India flight AI675 arrived in Kolkata about 8.20 a.m. after taking off from Mumbai at 6.16 a.m.

A total of 119 people boarded the plane (AI676) from Kolkata for the return flight to Mumbai. There were also six cabin staff members on the plane, which was about to take off when the damage was discovered.

The passengers were forced from the plane, which was later repaired. According to authorities, the passengers boarded the same flight to Mumbai about 1 p.m.
