Lucknow: In a bizarre development post his arrest by the Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) of the Uttar Pradesh Police in connection with a religious conversion racket, the accused Mohammed Umar has claimed that he belongs to the family of former Prime Minister V.P. Singh.


The accused, who himself is a convert, is originally a resident of Ramwa Panthuwa village in Haswa block of Uttar Pradesh’s Fatehpur district.


Hailing from a Rajput family, Mohammed Umar’s original name is Shyam Pratap Singh Gautam. The ATS officials have contacted the Fatehpur Police to verify his claims.


ADG (Law and Order) Prashant Kumar said that Mohammed Umar’s father Dhanraj Singh retired as the ADO Panchayat.

Mohammed Umar studied Class 1 to 8 from Ramwa School and completed his studies from Class 9 to 12 from Gopalganj’S Sarvodaya Inter College.


Mohammed Umar, said to be good in studies, was later sent by his father to Uttarakhand’s GB Pant Agricultural Technology University for studying BSc Agriculture.


He suffered a leg injury while staying in the hostel in Nainital and was helped by a Muslim student living in the adjoining room.


The Muslim student, who took Umar to the doctor on his bicycle, later often took him to the mosque as well. During this, Omar read the Quran in Hindi and was impressed by it. He converted in Nainital in 1984 at the age of 20.


Umar, who has five brothers, married Rajesh Kumari of a kshatriya family in Kheshan village falling under Ghazipur police station limits of ​​the district.


It is also being said that he married a Muslim girl while studying at the Aligarh Muslim University.


There was chaos when the family members of Umar’s first wife came to know about him converting to the Muslim religion.


Post this incident, there was an agreement between the two that Rajesh Kumari and his children would not convert.


However, Umar who later went to Delhi with his wife and both children converted their religion as well.

He named his wife Razia, while the daughter's name was Takdish Fatima and the son's name was Adil Umar.


During his stay in Delhi, he began the work of converting the Hindus to Muslims by opening an Islamic Dawa Center.


The ATS officials said that Umar's father had evicted him from the family after consulting his other sons as he came to know about the conversion.


The ATS is further gathering more information related to Umar.
